Originally named Camp Criley, as a supply station while the Santa Fe Railroad was under construction, the first settlers from Ohio’s Nineteenth Congressional district changed the name of the camp to honor their representative, later president, James A Garfield.
Located on US Highway 56, with rail service, Garfield is a great Kansas community to raise a family, retire or just live comfortably. As a rural agricultural community where you know your neighbors and your neighbors know you Garfield is a quiet town with two parks, tennis courts, library, fire station and other amenities for a nice quality of life experience.
Located on the Santa Fe Trail the City of Garfield has a rich history with historical buildings still in use today dating back from the 1870’s, a church bell donated by future President Garfield around 1875, and many more historical features.
