Located on the west border of Pawnee County Kansas, with a population of roughly 294 people, the City of Burdett is a friendly farming community where everyone is happy to see you.  Originally named Brown’s Grove and later renamed by railroad officials for a famous writer and humorist, Robert Jones Burdett the new town was the end of the rail line around 1886.

In 1961 Burdett was incorporated with a mayor-city council form of government.

The city has an excellent fire department and emergency medical service. Business include a bank, farm implement dealerships, café, beauty shop, mechanic/auto repair shop, insurance companies, construction companies, photography studios, hay grinding services, Farmers Cooperative, crop dusting, and many more. Recently a new housing subdivision has been built with more to come.
