Welcome to Larned, Kansas

E-mail Print PDF

Larned is a welcoming community in the heart of Kansas where hospitality and historic roots run deep.  Visitors find a variety of options, including a tour of Fort Larned, one of the best preserved Pony Express era military forts in the country and several other museums and landmarks.  The surrounding countryside allows the opportunity to enjoy the region’s rural beauty and there are several parks, offering hiking, and boating.  Kids and adults enjoy our well stocked local fishing pond. For sportsmen and women the area is also known for ample “walk-in” hunting opportunities and hunting lodges.

Residents walk to work and local retirees find plenty of community events and activities.  The local hospital provides state-of-the-art healthcare to the region.

Well known for its antique stores, Larned is a great place to do business and businesses take advantage of the central Kansas location, just hours from Hays, Kansas City, Denver and more.

Located on the East-West Auto Tour and US bicycle route Highway US-56, State Routes 156 and 19 provides in-state and interstate trucking access, a steady stream of tourists, bicyclist and cross country travelers.

The area’s strong agricultural industry provides many jobs and business opportunities in the area.  In addition many Pawnee County and Larned businesses serve the three large employers just outside of town, the Larned State Hospital, Larned Juvenile Correctional Facility and Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility.

E-mail Print PDF

Green Thumb anyone?  Take part in Larned’s first Pride Project a COMMUNITY GARDEN !  If you enjoy gardening but don’t have the space or don’t like to garden alone this is for you!  In addition to bringing members of the community together, many communities are able to harvest enough extra produce to supply local food banks with fresh vegetables throughout the growing season.  If you would like more information contact Donna at the Extension office at 285-6901 or Courtland at the Chamber at 285-6916 this week!

Who doesn't enjoy fresh vegetables during the summer and by working together we can all enjoy the rewards of a large garden!
